Job Description: 

 

The individual is largely responsible for the organization and department policy development, administration, implementation and follow-up related to Safety for Standard Utility employees, especially in the Operations departments with strategic assistance from the Director. Such work will include, though not be limited to, regular safety meetings for employees, safety reviews of work being performed in the field and investigation of work place incidents and accidents,  and revisions, additions or deletion of work practices and procedures. The work will also include research education, and implementation along with Training of industry safety standards, including, though not limited to OSHA, NEC, NFPA and IEEE standards as well as appropriate state, local or customer standards related to the work performed by Standard Utility employees. The work above will be accomplished by working collaboratively with the Managers of Risk Management and Training and the Director of HR, Risk Management, Safety and Training and by managing either directly or indirectly 2-6  employees (possibly more over time).

 

 

 

Minimum Requirements:   

 

Minimum of 3 verifiable years effectively managing other individuals.

 

Must be able to fluently read, write, speak and comprehend English. 3–5 years construction field experience with a wide variety of tasks. Verifiable, direct experience working with OSHA, NFPA, NEC and other applicable Safety regulations and professional standards; incident and accident investigation, administration and follow-up;

 

policy research, analysis, development, implementation and follow-up; work on significant organizational projects involving individuals from several parts of an organization; and experience with conflict resolution (both internal and external). In addition, the individual must possess at least moderately advanced use of computer hardware and software (word-processing, data-base, numerical and e-mail) skills, an enthusiasm for emerging technology and its use in the workplace; at least moderately advanced communication skills (both orally and in writing, with individuals and with groups up to senior managers); strong problem-solving skills; and a high level of emotional maturity (as demonstrated by the ability to accept critical feedback without defensiveness, willingness to accept personal responsibility for errors, and both the desire and tangible action to continually grow personally and professionally).  Finally, individual must work well, and  make decisions under pressure, as well as, work varying hours, which at times will include nights, weekends, holidays and work out of the DFW area (with little or no notice). Based on the nature of work at Standard Utility, even if not driving company vehicles, all employees are required to have a valid Texas Driver License in good standing throughout their employment with us.

 

 

 

Preferred Requirements: 

 

Experience in utilities, strongest preference is for electrical utility in contractor environment; CUSP, CSHO, ASP, or other safety-related professional certifications (either completed or currently underway with courses already completed and willingness to partner on completion of remainder);  and willingness to take on, effectively guide to completion, challenging assignments requiring collaboration or diverse group of individuals where negotiation is required; and strong ability to work with financial data (e.g. budgets, etc.). Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) of increasing preference based on internal and external demands.

 

Physical Requirements: 

 

Must be able to stand for periods of time on varied surfaces. Must be able to move freely, including ability to stoop, crawl, and bend at the knees and waist (while on field training assignments). Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing. May be required to work long and unpredictable hours. Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather from time to time.
