SALARY: $38.01 - $41.91 Hourly  OPENING DATE: 02/27/17 CLOSING DATE: Continuous DESCRIPTION: GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs skilled, detailed duties at the Journey Level in the installation, maintenance and repair of all primary and secondary electric transmission and distribution lines.  Assures construction and maintenance of service lines is performed within safety, service delivery, and all other standards established by the Division.
  EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Install, maintain, repair and/or remove overhead and underground distribution lines in accordance with systems and Division standards.
  • Locates faulted primary and secondary cable and lines, and repairs and restores to original or upgrading state upon completion of maintenance, assuring compliance with Division standards.
  • Locates energized primary and secondary lines and cables for private entities, other departments and customers involved in construction.
  • Pull wire, connect transformers. Erect and set poles, sets meter sockets, transformers, and switching gear. Trouble shoot issues related to these operations.
  • Terminates all classes of lines, transformers and meters.
  • Installs, maintains repairs, operates, and reads all functions of switching and other equipment system wide.
  • Clear right-of-ways of all obstructions for installation and maintenance of lines.
  • Inspect substation records, and conduct monthly maintenance checks for abnormal conditions.
  • Responds to emergency calls, operating equipment as required.
  • Respond to after hours call outs within 30 minutes.
  • Operates a wide range of heavy and light equipment in performing the tasks associated with installation, replacement and maintenance of lines.
  • Responds to emergency calls, and coordinates personnel during power outages operating equipment as required.

  TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
  • Perform other duties and special projects as instructed by supervisor.
  • May conduct training and awareness presentations concerning power line safety for other departments within the City as well as the public at large.
Attends training and educational programs to remain current of latest equipment and technology SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Completed a four year approved Electric Transmission and Distribution
  • Apprentice Program.
  • Ability to Rubber Glove up to 7200 V
     
    Certifications & Licenses:
  • Electrical Journey Certification
  • Possess and maintain a Class A Colorado Commercial Driver's License including a tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain one within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Certified annually in climbing
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • This position requires knowledge of a specific vocational, or technical
  • Nature which may be obtained through an apprenticeship program. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon completion of study and training. 
  • Maintain and possess a through working knowledge of protective
  • grounding, switching, climbing of poles with belt and spurs, aerial
  • bucket/hydraulic equipment, and electrical safe working practices.
  • Ability to read and understand technical prints and schematics including
  • construction and maintenance staking sheets.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of electrical standards for construction and
  • Maintenance of the electrical system, materials and methods.
  • Ability to translate verbal communication into effective written material,
  • e.g. reports and other documents.
  • Ability to remember codes, details, laws, regulations, processes, procedures, policies, and the like is essential.
  • Ability to use mathematical reasoning is essential for performing and understanding           engineering and electrical theory.
  • Ability to think quickly and analyze situations under pressure is essential.
  • Ability to communicate with others under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to solve problems is essential in both emergency situations as well as in responding to general policy and procedural requirements.
  • Ability to develop, prepare and maintain accounting records, calculate utility account billing for customer explanation, and related duties.
  • Ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, and be a team player.
